In
August 0f 1989 Allison Atlas was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia.
She was only 20 years old. Doctors informed her that her only chance for
survival was a bone marrow transplant. No one in Allison's family had
the perfect tissue type that matched hers so she was forced to appeal
to the community for help.
Family and friends formed "Friends Of Allison" in October of 1989. The purpose was to recruit potential bone marrow donors. A campaign was launched to find a life saving donor for Allison and the thousands of other patients who needed a matching donor. Allisons search sadly failed but thankfully her effort was not to be in vain. Friends Of Allison continues to fund marrow testings for other cancer victims. Allison believed: "No one should die because they do not have a donor"Please explore our site to see how you can help save a life.
